Hello!
Happy Passover Week. It’s Day 5 of the Passover and I’m excited about all that’s been happening and the new promises that we have entered into.
I’ve spent a great part of the past two weeks meditating on the Passover and how it relates to my life and all that’s been happening with me.
The bulk of my learnings have been on what happens between what has passed you over and the promise you need to take over. What do you have to crossover and take responsibility for? You’ll have red seas and nations that you must face. While there is quite a bit to say about this, I’d like to share some insight from one of my favorite teachers - John Paul Jackson. I’ll also post the link to the full message below.
Moses had sent twelve men to spy the land. Ten of them came back with a report that would keep the children of Israel in the wilderness for 40 years as against the eleven days journey that they could have taken to the land flowing with milk and honey. They let their fear of man overide their fear of God.
JPJ broke down the meaning of the names of the 10 tribes of Canaan that the Israelites needed to face before occupying the land, using them as an allegory for the battles we need to win to enter into what God has promised or called us to.
The first three are things you can probably conquer on your own. But in winning them on your own, pride and self-sufficiency can set in. L’oro kan sha, (in simple words) trust in the Lord to fight all of the battles that you need to fight.
The Kenites (Fabricators) - These are lies, distortions, and false accusations fabricated against you. When you hear wrong opinions going around about you, do you defend yourself and allow God to defend you? You need to win this by getting over the need to defend yourself to people.
The Kennizites (Possesive) - This denotes covetousness and the urge to look more spiritual than you really are or to keep up with others. You need to get over our need to be impressive to other people and just focus on God and who He has called you to be.
The Kadmonites (Ancient ways) - This is what breeds the religious spirit. We need to overcome the resistance to change and allow for new things to happen with us. You cannot store new wine in old wineskins.
Then comes the seven stronger tribes;
The Hittites (Terror) - The first terror you’ll face is the fear of failure. You get scared to do anything because you feel you are not spiritual enough and failure will be a confirmation of that. You overanalyze until you get to a point of paralysis and see everything as too big for you. If you keep waiting to know everything before you do anything, then you’ll never do anything because there is always something more to learn.
The Perizites (Squatters) - This represent apathy. If you keep giving excuses and ignore things, you’ll never get up to act on instructions and get things done. Apathy is being lukewarm. You need to live consciously.
The Raphaim (Giants) - When things get too big for you, do you run and change your story that God did not ask you to do it or will you lean on God to do it? So many people quit before the miracle comes. The only time you need a miracle is when you face the insurmountable.
The Amorites (Sayers) - This breeds inferiority complex, thinking that everyone is talking about how bad you are. The aim is to create self-doubt that keeps you going back to where you started from. Will you listen to people or see yourself as God sees you?
The Cannanites (Zealous) - This represents the potential to jump ahead of the Holy Spirit and getting discouraged when you haven’t waited on God for the right timing. After a few times of being overzealous, you find yourself stalling on decisions and leaving it to other people. The weapon for victory is to walk in tune with the Holy Spirit.
The Girgashites (Stranger) - This makes you feel out of place everywhere you step into. The enemy enjoys using this tool as it prevents you from growing roots in a place. No roots, no fruits. Without fruits, you cannot hurt the kingdom of darkness. You’ll have to get to the point of trusting God’s placement of you in a place to grow roots and bear fruits. Your destiny is tied to roots.
The Jebusites (Downtrodden) - This produces anxiety, depression, and a victim mentality. You keep blaming others for your failures and behaviour. This is an enemy you have to overcome by dealing with the orphan spirit.
These ten battles separate you from the destiny God has assigned for you. Winning one strengthens you for the next. However, they don’t all come in a linear format. For example, I found myself dealing with something I thought I’d completely gotten over this week and I was reminded of the importance of depending on the Holy Spirit continually. These enemies come in different formats and usually mark a call to a higher level than where you had won over it before. Hence, the most important thing of all that we can do is keep growing deeper in love with the Holy Spirit and relying on Him to help us fight the battles. They will always be bigger than what we can fight on our own, and when we win, it will be clear that it was God who won it for us.
I hope you’ve learned something today and that it excites you enough to listen to the full message and study this some more. It’s pretty exciting stuff and I never get tired of talking about it.
